What is localization testing in software testing?

Localization testing is a kind of testing in which the application is modified according to some locale or culture. The modification includes change in the user interface, graphical design and the settings according to the culture. Quality of the product is examined using this testing technique and the product is executed only on the locale version of the product.

Localization testing adapts the application of the globalization for the culture or locale. Localization testing examines whether the product which we are delivering to the market works really.

While using localization testing the followings things needs to be tested:

  • Spelling rules.
  • Data format.
  • Available memory.
  • Measurement and rulers.
  • Upper and lower case conversions.

Localization testing tests that the product which we are going to deliver to the market fulfils all the locale laws and rules. There are some problems of localization testing such as some application does not support formatting of phone numbers, address, etc. so the users will not be able to contact if the phone number format is not supported.

Localization testing examines whether the product which was build is translated into the particular target
language.

Example of localization testing:

Suppose consider one shopping site and you want to buy books from that site. So for ordering there is price field. So using the localization testing the currency format, date format is examined according to the country’s format.
